This 1920's era apartment was gut-renovated to bring back its former grandeur. A new Kitchen opening to the Living Room modernized this classic one bedroom layout. The Living Room’s décor was a conscious coalescing of the apartment’s Art Deco past with a modern, 1970’s chic aesthetic. This apartment renovation was featured in Domino.
The Kitchen’s small footprint was optimized by reversing its layout and creating a new connection to the Living Room, while in the Bedroom a new closet wall takes advantage of previously neglected storage opportunities.
This pergola for a private residence in South Florida is strategically located at the head of the pool to maximize visibility and reflections. The design utilizes clusters of three Doric columns to provide visual stability for a generous column span. Two layers of beams & rafters, each with carved ends evoking the curling waves of the nearby ocean are topped by simple purlins to provide dramatic shadows.
This console table is stylistically derived from furniture at the Villa Kerylos in the south of France, which was built in the early 1900’s as an authentic reproduction of a Greek villa. Locating the supporting abstracted horse legs at the center of the shelves, rather than the corners, provides a modern twist. The reich mahogany veneer is contrasted by the custom ebony & cherry wood inlay banding pattern.
Inspired by the early 20th c. art movement “De Stijl”, this desk re-interprets some of the era’s classic two-dimensional paintings into a three-dimensional furniture piece. Fabrication of the desk by pegs, dowels and screws allows it to be disassembled and reassembled.
